There are some great walks around The Red Cow, to Heydon, Great Chrishall, Thriplow, Royston, Saffron Walden, depending on whether you want a short stroll or a longer hike.
Places to Visit
Audley End House is a historic mansion that was built in the early 17th century by Thomas Howard, 1st Earl of Suffolk. Today, visitors can see a third of the original mansion, which features Robert Adam and Jacobean revival interiors. The gardens and landscape have undergone many changes over the years to match the changes in English garden fashion. You can visit the house and gardens by going to the English Heritage website.
The Duxford Imperial War Museum is a museum of aviation history that is located on a historic airfield. It is an opportunity to learn about the people who lived and worked at RAF Duxford.
Cambridge is a city that is home to one of the world’s oldest universities, beautiful architecture, museums, art galleries, parks, meadows, and the ADC Theatre. The University’s Great St Mary’s Church is an ideal location to view the city.
Holy Trinity is a 12th-century church located in Chrishall, which is one of the seven churches in the Parish of The Icknield Way Villages.

Thriplow Daffodil Weekend: 2-day charity fundraising event with daffodil displays, attractions, open gardens, stalls, homemade food, and
live music. Run entirely by volunteers.

We are committed to protecting the environment as much as we possibly can and to this ends we have several systems in place to help us achieve that commitment. Our food and drinks are sourced locally to minimise transportation impact and support local rural businesses. We use paper straw. We recycle and reuse all recyclable and reusable waste, including food waste for compost and fuels, and aim to reduce landfill disposal.
Our new rooms are energy-efficient with quality insulation, windows, and movement-sensitive lighting. We monitor our water, oil, and electricity usage to maximize efficiency. We provide toiletries in large dispensing sizes and encourage guests to reduce towel and bedlinen changes. We welcome suggestions for further reducing our environmental impact
The cancellation policy requires all amendments and cancellations to be finalised 7 days prior to the booked arrival date. Any changes following this time will result in a 100% room charge being applied to the credit card used to confirm the booking. We will NOT charge should the room be resold at the full rate. All tariffs are subject to alternation without prior notice. Please note any booking cancellations must be received in writing.
Check in: From 6pm onwards – we can arrange earlier by individual request if your room is available. Guests may register from 12 noon and leave their luggage in reception (earlier by prior arrangement, subject to availability)

We accept assistance dogs in some of our hotel rooms and in the bar area of the pub. Dogs should not be left unattended in rooms.
Children are very welcome at The Red Cow when accompanied by an adult.
Highchairs can be provided on request and a children’s menu is available in our Dining Pub. We kindly request that children are not in the bar after 9.00pm.
Your room will receive a full service daily. Hours of operation are Monday – Sunday 10am – 3pm. Please leave any towels you require changing in the shower or bath. If we are unable to access your room during these times we will unfortunately be unable to service it. However, you may ask for additional towels, toiletries, toilet rolls, and refreshments from the bar.
